The 2024 Suzuki V-Strom 800 has arrived in Australia as of late January, aimed at tarmac riders who see the occasional dirt road.
This is welcomed to sit alongside the V-Strom 800DE, its offroad focussed sibling.
Considering the success of the still-available V-Strom 650XT, the V-Strom 800 makes total sense for Australia and the typical Suzuki buyer.
The V-Strom 650XT still has its place, as a V-Twin, where as the V-Strom 800 (and 800DE) is a parallel twin plus enjoys all the updates Suzuki feature now on new models, such as LED lighting, colour TFT instrument and much more.
We'll mention it here as we'll be asked; both 800 models still do not feature cruise control, and we have raised this omission with Suzuki Australia to include it. It is expected by customers today, who take long rides through speed cameras including point-to-point and is a positive for rider safety and fatigue.
Features of the V-Strom 800 vs the 800DE include:
- Tall screen (vs short on DE)
- A tougher looking beak (vs sharper look on DE)
- Nissin dual four-piston radial mount callipers (vs axial mount on DE)
- Cast aluminium wheels (vs wire spoked on DE)
- 19" tubeless front tyre (vs 21" on DE)
- Road focussed tyres (vs off road on DE)
- Front and rear 150 mm front suspension stroke (vs 220 mm for DE)
- Front adjustable spring pre-load (vs spring, compression and rebound on DE)
- Rear hand adjustable spring pre-load, also adjustable damping (vs pre-load/damping/rebound on DE)
- 185 mm ground clearance (vs 220 mm DE)
- 825 mm seat height (vs 855 mm for DE)
- No front fender (vs three-piece on DE)
- Tapered narrow grip handlebars (vs wider grip on DE)
- Optional underbody protection (standard on DE)
- No radiator guard (standard on DE) - see our accessories team for excellent options for your V-Strom 800
- Optional hand protectors (standard on DE)
- Rubber covered aluminium footpegs (wide, rubber covered steel on DE)
- Two livery options, Vigor Blue and Mat Steel Green (vs other livery for DE, model year depending)
As above, you can see the non-DE is lighter, lower, more road focussed and a better price. On the other hand, the DE is very well featured for offroad riding including adjustments, protection, and suitability where higher ground clearances are required including over rough terrain.
